SINGLE SITTING ROOT CANAL treatment

The outer portion or Crown of a tooth is a three-layered structure namely – Enamel, Dentin & Pulp. If the tooth decay is limited to the first two layers, it can be corrected with Filling/ Restoration. In case the tooth decay reaches the third layer and causes inflammation or infection of pulp, an RCT or Endodontic Treatment is needed. Earlier, dentists used to use hand instruments and take multiple visits for completing root canal treatment. This is uncomfortable to the patient and can result in discontinuation of treatment. Now a days rotary (automatic- machine operated) root canals are done which are more precise and faster making Single Visit Root Canal Treatment possible.

WHAT IS RCT?

Root Canal Treatment also is known as Endodontic Treatment is a procedure done when the tooth decay reaches the pulp (innermost layer of the tooth) causing inflammation. It is necessary to save the damaged tooth from extraction.

What are the signs that a root canal is needed?

Teeth that require root canal therapy are not always painful. However, signs you may need a root canal include severe toothache, pain upon chewing or application of pressure, prolonged sensitivity or pain in response to hot and cold temperatures, a dark discoloration of the tooth, and swelling and tenderness in the nearby gums. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.
